    Open Days

We have again been invited by Welshpool Town Council to open Christ Church for the public to view its interior as part of the annual ‘Be a Local Tourist Week’. This has previously been a great success for us as it is always uplifting to talk about our work here and to hear peoples reactions about the beauty of the…

    Out of the ground!

Saturday was a landmark day. It marked the end of what seemed like endless digging out of earth inside the church to create this house. It marked the end of having a digger in the ‘living room’ (after 4 years!). It marked the end of picking our way over boards to get to the bathroom and kitchen sink. Saturday was…

    A little bit open…

During this lovely spell of spring sunshine, we have the church doors open to warm up the chilled air after the winter. Inevitably a church with open doors will draw in people! Therefore we have now dedicated the porch area for passing visitors to view the works from a safe distance and read about some of the work we have…

    Solid walls!

Karl has been working so hard on the house during the record breaking freezing cold temperatures in the church. I can hardly bear to be out there but most evenings Karl somehow manages it, and after being at work all day. Stud walls are now made solid with plasterboard. The bedrooms are beginning to feel like proper rooms. The first…

    Season’s Greetings

It’s late on Christmas Eve but wanted to take this opportunity to wish all the very best of the Season’s Greetings from a very snowy Christ Church. The house build has progressed over the last few weeks with flooring and stud walls appearing upstairs. It’s amazing as you can really make sense of the layout and see the shape of…

    Back to plastering

After a long delay, have finally got back into plastering mode. Need to put the lime finishing coat onto the original lime plaster. We had to scrape the original masonry paint off as the walls weren’t able to breathe and consequently the original lime final coat came off with the paint. The priority is to work on the wall of…

    Drainage works complete!

Hurrah….at last, the epic rainwater drainage works are virtually complete. After months of toil and for the first time in over 30 years all the rainwater is now being channeled away from the church. We have installed two large soakaways and have weaved our way through the graveyard with a web of pipework linking the gullies with the soakaways. We…

    karls bit

Back from a fantastic family holiday in Yorkshire, but the work on the rainwater soak aways grinds to a halt, my digger is sidelined! Do I revert to pick and shovel or do I spend the weekend fixing the digger? Having spent many hours on the end of a shovel previously, I have decided take the time to fix the…

    Open Days 2009

By the invitation of Welshpool Town Council we opened Christ Church as part of the ‘Be a Local Tourist Week’. We cleared a small area adjacent to the South entrance and put up an informative exhibition on the history of Christ Church and the work we have done so far. Thanks to all 80+ of you who came! It is…

    The Secret Garden

The South West corner of the churchyard wall houses an old oak door locked and half buried. It was the gate which the Earls of Powis used to access Christ Church after walking along the footpath across the outer park from Powis Castle. With the kind permission of the Trustees of Powis Castle Estate we have transformed this overgrown entrance…
