    Nestling in the trees…

One of our favourite foraging haunts, the field behind the church. Today looking for blackberries and sloes. And one of our favourite views of the church… Image of the Week #53

A year of Image of the Week!

It has been a whole year that we’ve been taking an ‘Image of the Week’. It’s been a wonderful process, photographing something which catches our eye in or around the church each week. Some weeks the image jumps out at me, and I’m well prepared come Sunday when I aim to post them. Others however remain hidden to me until…

    Vaulted ceiling

Visitors to the church often comment on the vaulted ceiling of the apse end of the church. It really is quite something and one of the reasons why the building has a Grade II* listing. I love the colour and patterning in the brickwork. Image of the week #52

A view not seen for 157 years!

Last week the large Cedar tree was cut down – which I shall write a post about shortly. It has revealed a view of the church which hasn’t been seen for 157 years (Fred and Owen counted the rings!) Image of the Week #51

    View

    They’re home!

They’re home! For the past two and a half weeks, Karl and Owen have been on quite an adventure. They went to the Salt Flats in Utah, USA, where they took part in Bonneville Speed Week. For 18 months, Karl and two friends from work, have been working towards this, by building and modifying two vintage BSA Bantams to attempt…

    Moth hunting

Inspired by a recent Moth and Bat evening we attended recently, organised by Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust, we have been doing our very own moth hunting this week. We set up a makeshift ‘trap’ with a lamp and a white sheet, outside the back door of the church, and waited to see what would appear. It was completely fascinating, and when…

    Painted landscapes

We were stuck indoors today due to heavy rain, so had to make do with the landscape views which have been painted onto the stained glass windows. This is part of a window in memory of Lady Violet of Powis Castle and is one I never tire of looking at, as it has so much detail and pattern. Image of…

    Quarry view

During the wonderful weather this week, we’ve been exploring the hills and meadows around Welshpool, including going up through Bron-y-Buckley Woods and across the fields to the top of the old quarry. It was funny to be standing on the very hill that the stone came from to build the church, whilst looking at it. Image of the Week #45
