discovering a ruined chapel…
On Easter Sunday we were out in the foothills of Cadair Idris, near Dolgellau, on a lovely springtime walk. We passed a ruined chapel which, of course, we had to explore… Penmaen Chapel, Islawr Dref, was a Calvanistic Methodist chapel built in 1883. Up in the belfry there is a signature of possibly one of the original church builders. We spent the afternoon re-pointing the walls up there. It is so exposed that the mortar inside the walls gets washed away. There is evidence of a lot of previous re-pointing work up there. Image of the Week #82

The camellias are giving a good show in the flower border adjacent to the church and they don’t seem to mind a bit of scaffolding! This border was originally planted up by the gardeners of Powis Castle as it is next to the Powis family tombs. Image of the Week #81
